Youth Ministry Networking With Wayne Morgan

Do you ever feel like you are on an isolated island as a Youth Pastor in your community? Wouldn’t you love to network more with other Youth Pastors, gaining from one another’s strengths?  Our guest this week on the podcast is Wayne Morgan. Wayne is a Youth Ministry veteran who is now the Northeast Regional Coordinator with National Network of Youth Ministries. You can find out more about their ministry at www.nnym.org.

Takeaways from this episode

– You do not have to know all the answers to be able to connect youth workers

Issues and problems in networking:

  1. Philosophical issues between organizations
  2. Too much ego
    • If you don’t see your weaknesses and strengths, you will never be able to work with other ministries and organizations

Building a team:

  1. Be humble
  2. Find who you need to build up in your team
  3. Emphasize relationships – build trust

First steps to connections:

  1. Look for people who are doing something similar to you
  2. Find out other people’s faith stories
  3. Listen to how others got into youth ministry
  4. Pray for one another
  5. Ask pastors, teachers, or local community organizations to connect

-Not every relationship started will turn out to be a deep connection

-It takes an intentional move to look for a team and to start seeing people around us

-Resist fear and feelings of competition
